As part of its continuing outreach to students of all ages and interests, the Black Hills Stock Show Foundation is a supporter of the Rapid City Journal Newspapers in Education Program. With annual sponsorships from area organizations and businesses, free newspapers are delivered to classrooms in addition to weekly online lesson plans all geared with one purpose in mind...to encourage students to read more. “The learning process encompasses a lot of things,” says Diane Norman, BHSSF Community Relations Director. “For the younger student, making reading interesting and fun through the community newspaper helps kids learn to take advantage of an important and accessible learning tool. Educational services offered through the Rapid City Journal Newspapers in Education series includes free newspapers provided by sponsors, weekly online lesson plans or choose one from the Journal’s extensive archive, tours of the Journal and guest speakers who will visit classrooms and talk about reporting and advertising. “This type of program is a good fit with our scholarship programs,” says Norman. “Much of the Foundation’s service work and fundraising focuses on continuing education and what a great opportunity for us to become involved with younger students in the classroom.” For program information contact,
