Jon Crane Print Series Offered.....
Farm Credit Helps BHSS Foundation Hold Silent Auction
Rapid City, SD -- Silence is golden.
At least Farm Credit Services of America and the Black Hills Stock Show
Foundation hopes so.
Preparing to move its Rapid City offices to a new location this spring,
the regional rural lending institution was boxing up some office decor that
wouldn’t fit in with the new floor plans.
It didn’t take Doug Theel, a Financial Officer with FCSA and the
vice-president of the BHSS Foundation long to unbox it.
“The Foundation is always looking for ways to raise money for youth
scholarship and grant programs that help so many,” he says. “So when I knew
there was a set of Jon Crane prints available to a new home, I started to make
some phone calls.”
Thanks to his efforts and the generosity of Farm Credit (a long-time
supporter of the Foundation) people attending Stock Show will have the
opportunity to bid on this hard-to-find set throughout the week.
A Silent Auction, unlike it’s counter-part, the live auction, allows for a
quieter version of the time-honored bidding process. What’s it worth? Not just
the art but the cause the money will go towards. That’s what people will ask
themselves as they jot down the answer and place it on the bid sheets located in
the Stockman’s Club.
This particular Crane series features old farm trucks, in a set of three that
galleries say are now hard to find. Titled “Memories”, “Six Speed
Special” and “Black Hills Pioneer”, Theel notes, “you can locate one or
the other but finding all three is, well, a find.”
Ray Grebin of Perfect Hanging Gallery, Rapid City, SD agrees. “Unique to
this set is that one of the prints, titled “Memories” is the very first
limited edition print that was released by this artist,” he observes. “Each
of the prints represent a Black Hills scene and the edition size on these was
very small. Presenting all three of these in a set is pretty rare.”
Foundation President Joe Norman points to volunteers and sponsoring
businesses as among the reasons the non-profit organization is seeing steady
growth. "The Foundation benefits from good people with good ideas. Doug's
role as a director and now as vice-president have increased awareness of the
Foundation's efforts among community and business leaders in Rapid City and
surrounding areas," observes Norman. "It's creating partnerships like
this, that he does so well in, that really do make a difference."
The three, limited edition prints are all framed alike and are being
displayed in the Stockman’s Club area at the Civic Center and can also be
viewed during the Stockman’s Banquet and Ball, Wed., February 5 at the Ramkota
Inn, Rapid City.
Stock Show is a busy time which much to see and do and for those who are
unable to get to the location where the prints and Silent Auction forms are
available, placing a bid is easy.
“Just contact me or Joe Norman and we’ll be happy to place your bid in
the running,” says Theel who can be reached at 605-342-0678 or by Email:
Theeld@FCSAmerica.com
Contact Norman at 605-923-6568 or Email: Foundation@BHSSF.com
.
The winning bid will be announced at the conclusion of the Stock Show.
