Where's The Beef......
Stockman's Club, Prime Rib Dining Room Offer Great Food, Fellowship
Rapid City, SD -- You've walked the entire trade show, sat ringside at
a cattle sale for a spell, took in one of the educational programs and now you
just want a good meal and a place to hang your hat.
The Black Hills Stock Show Foundation has just the place for you.
Each year during the Black Hills Stock Show & Rodeo, the Foundation opens
the doors to the Stockman's Club and Prime Rib Dining Room, located in the upper
area of the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center. "Club members and guests takes
advantage of the peace and quiet available in these locations," says Diane
Norman, community relations director for the Foundation. "Over the years, it's
grown in popularity to such an extent that we've added the Red Room area when
it's available, to make room for everyone."
While social and dining amenities available do not serve as a means through
which the Foundation raises monies (all revenues realized remain with the
Rushmore Plaza Civic Center), the facility does provide the space, staff and
other support services that make a visit to the Club and Dining Room an
enjoyable one.
"Management and staff go out of their way to help the Foundation prepare
this area for members and guests," notes Norman. "There are a lot of
advance details to take care of. When the doors open, the smiles have to be on,
with service and quality uppermost in everyone's mind."
As early as October, the facility's Food Services Director Larry Dale and
Foundation representatives are sitting down to consider menu items, preparation
and serving details, opening and closing schedules and costs. Trying to
determine the needs, in advance, of the thousands of people who visit the Club
and Dining Room is not always an easy task - and presents a new set of
challenges every year.
Special presentations planned for the Civic Center and Sutton Rodeo's 25th
Silver Anniversary require some changes to the opening and closing schedules.
And increasing costs in food and beverage product, necessitates an increase in
cost of menu items. "We do all we can to buy competitively from our
suppliers," says Dale. "As in many areas of the food industry, costs
have gone up this year. We'll focus on providing the best value we can. For
example, meal cost includes a choice from a selection of three beverages,
dessert, tax and service fee."
It's that attention to details along with service and quality, that Lane and
the Foundation hope will serve as benchmarks for satisfied customers.
To its members, the Foundation offers the use of the Stockman's Club and
Prime Rib Dining Room as host locations for noon luncheons that feature guest
presenters and evening socials. Available on a first come, first serve basis, it
allows for Foundation members to host friends, family and clients (along with
guests) in a distinctive setting where much of the history of the Black Hills
Stock Show & Rodeo is on display. It also offers a glimpse to the
Foundation's annual Western Auction and Cowboy Collectibles Auction held during
the week. Items consigned to both of those fund raising events are presented for
public viewing in the club and dining room areas.
"We encourage people to stop in early in the week," says Norman.
"Opening and closing schedules will be posted, along with menus for the
entire week. Whether you're in the mood for a good prime rib dinner or a French
Dip sandwich for lunch, you can make your plans from information made
available."
