Rapid City, S.D. In the early years of the Black Hills Stock Show
Foundation's Cowboy Classic, convincing people to participate was the
challenge. Now in its ninth year, golfing enthusiasts are turned away
since there's only so much room and time for the event that benefits the
Foundation's agricultural scholarship and community/program grant
projects.

Cowboy Classic Golf Tournament that raises funds for the non-profit
Foundation's programs |
"It's just been phenomenal," says Foundation President, Joe
Norman, who along with wife Diane, created the event and have worked in
building it over the years. "It used to be a case of having a hard
time getting sponsorships and participants. That's all changed and due
in large part to the individuals and businesses that have gotten
involved and
spread the word."
Playing to a full house, this year's Classic set for Sunday, August
19 at the Elk's Country Club in Rapid City, SD, will pay out strong
monies, prizes and awards. Along with being one of the best valued
golfing tournaments in the Black Hills Region, Norman observes,
"This is where rural interests meet city interests for a fun and
(moderately!) competitive day. It's also where the common goal of
helping raise funds for youth and community programs that benefit an
entire region, is played out on the green. The Foundation is truly
appreciative of the support and participation it enjoys with the
Classic."
