15th Annual
Stockman's Auction
Wednesday, January 30, 2008
Ramkota Convention Center
Rapid City, South Dakota
Welcome
to this select offering. Each year, we work to bring together items that
represent a broad range of artistic disciplines.
Collector pieces that
include the Foundation's Limited Edition Print Series, The Great American
Cowboy, are always popular among bidders.
Proceeds from the auction are used to help fund
scholarship programs made
available to students from the five-state region of North and South Dakota,
Montana, Wyoming and Nebraska and who are seeking post-secondary education in
agriculturally related career fields.
Advance bids on items listed below are also being taken. If we can be of
further assistance, please feel free to contact me at 605-347-2562 or jjohnson@firstwesternbank.com. See you at
the auction!

BHSS Foundation Director, Stockman’s Auction Chairman
*The Black Hills Stock Show Foundation expresses its thanks
to those artisans who donate in full or part.
We also wish to thank Auctioneer Lynn Weishaar who each year,
has donated his time and talent to call the Stockman’s Auction.

Lights and shiny crowns on
the beautiful rodeo queens were just an accent on the evening of respect and
honor for the elite of the Black Hills area. The 50th anniversary of the Black
Hills Stock Show was celebrated during the Stockman’s Banquet and Ball at the
Ramkota in Rapid City. Congratulations to Myron Williams,
Don Huebner, and Jim
Thompson for their well deserved honor. The ballroom at the Ramkota was
decorated with lights and wonderful decorations, the band sounded great, the
speeches were entertaining, and the scholarship winners were smiling! Terry
Taylor, Scholarship chairman, explained our scholarship program while Scott Shoun presented the lucky winners with their certificates. It is a wonderful
experience to talk to these intelligent, ambitious young people as they start
the next phase of their lives in the learning process. Five young people
received the $2000 scholarships. Good luck to all of you!! It is apparent the
future of agriculture is in good hands.

In our endeavor to help as many
young people as possible, we host the auction of donated items during the
Stockman’s Banquet and Ball. Every item was unique and original. It is truly
amazing to receive the items each year and realize how talented people give so
freely of their time to help our cause. You can view the items and the
descriptions here. A huge thank you goes to all the people donating the items
and the buyers of each piece of the works of art. The art work of Mick B.
Harrison once again stopped the show with his ‘Great American Cowboy Series’.
The picture of five famous bucking horses owned by local rodeo contractors was
truly poetry in motion. It went to a group of buyers who will display it at the
Civic Center for six months of the year and at Crazy Horse Memorial for six
months. What a great tribute to five incredible equine athletes! We raised over
$22,000 for our scholarship and grant fund and had a great time doing it! Hats
off to all of you!!
