In memory of Milo Rypkema and Dr. Max Winkler

2009 Black Hills Stock Show

The 2009 Black Hills Stock Show Stockman’s Ball and Banquet was held amid the glitter of stars and rhinestones at the Rapid City Ramkota on February 4th. During the delicious banquet, six new stars were introduced to the public. The Black Hills Stock Show Foundation Board of Directors selected six outstanding South Dakota seniors to receive the $2000 scholarships offered. These talented young people were chosen from eighteen contenders exhibiting the toughest competition in recent history. Grace Schnabel from Philip High School was given the Milo Rypkema Memorial Scholarship. Marty and Eddy Rypkema presented this scholarship in Milo’s memory. Milo was a charter member of the BHSS Foundation Board. Ty Littau from Winner High School was given the Lamont Hill Memorial Scholarship. Loretta Hill, BHSS Foundation Director and widow of Lamont presented the scholarship in Lamont’s memory. Taylor Geppert from Kimball High School, Brittney Heiberger from Tri-Valley High School, Joey Painter from Harding County High School and Mick Trask from Philip High School each received $2000 scholarships from the BHSS Foundation. Terry Taylor, Scholarship Chairman and BHSS Foundation Director presented the scholarships along with special guest, Walt Garrison!

The Black Hills Stock Show Foundation extends an invitation to all of you buckaroos to come to the Stockman’s Ball on Wednesday, February 4th, 2009. It will be at the Ramkota in Rapid City, SD. While you are enjoying the great food, watching the honoree’s accepting their awards, and dancing the night away, you can also help area youth achieve their goals of higher education. The Black Hills Stock Show Foundation will hold an auction to help with the scholarship fund that is for seniors in the five state area. We will honor four students with a $2000 scholarship. Then we will offer an unique selection of items like silver mounted bits, spurs, silver ladies and men’s jewelry, furniture, a quilt, leather breast collar, leather headstall and other beautiful items. You will also have the opportunity to own a piece of original art work by Mick Harrison as he continues the ‘Great American Cowboy Series’.
