2008 Black Hills Stock Show

The 2008 Black Hills Stock Show started in January and ended up in February sunshine. The directors of the Black Hills Stock Show Foundation extend our heartfelt gratitude for the generosity of the Black Hills community and the many visitors to Rapid City, SD. The week started with decorating the Stockman’s Club with a BHSS Foundation Director, Jay George’s extensive saddle and art collection and hanging all the beautiful leather work done by Riley Kammerer displaying member’s brands. Hope you made your way to the Gold Room and ate some of the Beefman’s tender USA Raised beef! Then we gave two $500 scholarships at the 20X High School Rodeo held on Sunday, January 27th. Congratulations, Misty McPherson from Sturgis and Tyrell Bonnet from Newell! Tuesday, January 29th, the BHSS Foundation directors hosted the military luncheon in the Gold Room. The freedom of our country is gained by their sacrifice and hard work. Our scholarship program continues to grow as all of you donate time, money and beautiful items for the Stockman’s Banquet and Ball Auction on Wednesday, January 30th. We were proud to award scholarships to five dynamic young people during the Banquet. The large crowd at the 14th annual Cowboy Heritage Auction on Saturday, February 2 stayed seven hours and bid on over 300 items! New members joined our organization to be a part of the Stockman’s Club and help area youth realize their dreams! In one short week, we handed out scholarships and donations worth over $12,000!! Seven young people will benefit from your donations and we tip our hats to all of you!! Thank you and keep in touch during the year as we hand out two more scholarships at the State High School Finals in Belle Fourche, SD in June and host the golf scramble in August among the many other events we support during the year. Saddle up and join us as we ride the trail in 2008!!

The Black Hills Stock Show Foundation extends an invitation to all of you buckaroos to come to the Stockman’s Ball on Wednesday, January 30th, 2008. It will be at the Ramkota in Rapid City, SD. While you are enjoying the great food, watching the honoree’s accepting their awards, and dancing the night away, you can also help area youth achieve their goals of higher education. The Black Hills Stock Show Foundation will hold an auction to help with the scholarship fund that is for seniors in the five state area. We will honor four students with a $2000 scholarship. Then we will offer an unique selection of items like silver mounted bits, spurs, silver ladies and men’s jewelry, furniture, a quilt, leather breast collar, leather headstall and other beautiful items. You will also have the opportunity to own a piece of original art work by Mick Harrison as he continues the ‘Great American Cowboy Series’. This year the painting will feature famous bucking horses from four world renowned stock contractors. The original painting and the first print will be auctioned off during the highlight of the evening.
